Manchester City received a shocker when 19-year old Croatian youngster rebuffed their interest in him, reports claim.
Ante Coric was set for a move to the Etihad to play under Pep Guardiola but he tunred down the move despite City dropping as much as £15 million. He plays for Dinamo Zagreb, and the club were willing to release him for the trip, but after the player discovered that he would not be able to get a shirt
in the current squad yet, he killed the deal.
Coric is one of the hottest names in Croatia, with his style of play similar to that of Croatia senior team player Luka Modric. The Real Madrid star used to be in the Premier League but has gone on to establish a name for himself in Europe as one of the best play makers. The ambitious player wanted more from City, asking for instant invitation to the senior team which City declined. Read more »
Croatia was qualified after defeating Turkey after 2 matches. The team has been quite impressive as far as the opening of their 2 matches is concerned.
There are many talented players in the team and Luka Modric is one of them to name a few. In addition to Modric, the midfielders namely Ivan Perisic and Ivan Rakitic have also scored well in the opening 2 matches so far. The sixth meeting between Croatia and Spain was an interesting one. Spain has won 3 out of 5 meetings previously and Croatia has won once. The victory of Croatia against Spain was last seen in 1994.
The goalkeeper of Croatia Danijel Subasic thanked Modric as he predicted the way Sergio Ramos would have hit his penalty in Euro 2016 in 2-1 win over Spain. The 31 year old Croatian goalkeeper managed to save the spot kick from Ramos, the defender of Spain when the score was only 1-1. It earned them the victory and they were through to the knockout stage as Group D qualifiers. Though Modric was not a part of the game on 21st June due to an injury, but he passed some crucial information to Subasic about his colleague Ramos that made a whole lot of difference to win the game. Croatia look up to 30-year old Real Madrid star, Luka Modric, to lift them during their Euro 2016 campaign.
The very talented player is known as the ‘Croatian Cruyff’ in reference to recently-deceased Dutch legend Johan.
Modric helped steer Madrid to a record 10th Champions League title two seasons ago. He will be even more important for Croatia at the European Championship finals as they look to better their previous best results of reaching the quarter-finals in 1996 and 2008. Certainly, Turkey, the Czech Republic and defending champions Spain, Croatia’s Group D opponents, will be wary of the threat from a Croatian midfield that also boasts Barcelona’s Ivan Rakitic, Inter Milan pair Ivan Perisic and Marcelo Brozovic and Mateo Kovacic of Real Madrid.
At only 22 years old he became only the second Croatian to be included in the UEFA “Team of the Tournament” after his tournament debut eight years ago. Modric, after last year’s World Cup became the first Croatian selected in a FIFA World XI. Rejected by Croatian giants Hajduk Split as a teenager because of his slight physique, Modric signed with arch rivals Dinamo Zagreb at age 16. Read more »
Spanish giant Real Madrid played SD Eibar over the weekend in the La Liga where Los Blancos emerged victorious with a 4-0 thumping. The Croatian midfielder was rested by Head Coach Zinedine Zidane.
Zinedine Zidane also rested Keylor Navas most probably because he feels the best chance for Real Madrid to win a trophy is the European tournament. With the win over Eibar and League leaders Barcelona’s successive loss to Real Sociedad, it leaves the Real Madrid four points behind the Catalan giant.
Barcelona has garnered 76 points from 32 games in the La Liga this season , Athletico Madrid is in second place with 73 points while Real Madrid are closely behind with 72 points, all from the same number of matches played.
Real Madrid lost in an away match to Wolfsburg in the quarter-final first leg of the UEFA Champions League last week. Wolfsburg went ahead 2-0 in the first half and maintained the lead till the end of the game. Real Madrid will be hoping to overturn the defeat at the Santiago Bernabeu next week.
This is the reason real Madrid boss left the star player out of the match. Aside Luka Modric and Keylor Navas, Sergio Ramos, Raphael Varane and Karim Benzema also missed out of the victory against SD Eibar. Ramos missed the game after being sent off at the Camp Nou during last week’s El Clasico. Karim Benzema and Raphael Varane missed out due to sickness and injury. Read more »
Christian Benteke joined Liverpool on July 22nd and even though it hasn’t even been 2 months since the Belgian forward arrived to Anfield, Brendan Rodgers is feeling incredibly optimistic about what Benteke is going to accomplish as a player of Liverpool who was signed for a transfer fee of £32.5 million.
Liverpool’s Brendan Rodgers praised his Belgian summer signing as he said: “For me, I think he’ll prove to be a bargain for the club. I really do. I’ve read and seen things about his game, but in the short period of time he’s been in, I’ve been even more impressed. I’ve seen him up close now for three years, stood at the side of the field and watching this guy is not just his power and strength, but also his footballing ability’’
Benteke’s career as a Liverpool player has already kicked off in a positive form as the Belgian attacker helped seal 3 points for his new club after scoring the only goal of Livepool’s match against Bournemouth in the 2nd match of the 2015-16 Premier League season. Read more »
Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez was a surprise omission from the Mexico squad for the Copa America.
The 27-year-old striker has definitely not secure the same kind of first-team football as he would have done at any other club around the world. It was initially the reason behind his move to Real Madrid on a season-long loan. However, Carlo Ancelotti only used a marginally with Karim Benzema being given bulk of the workload of leading the team. This was thought to be one of the reasons behind Hernandez not being included in the recent squad submitted by Miguel Herrera.
After an impressive debut season at Old Trafford, Hernandez has struggled for first-team opportunities. He should complete a permanent move away from United in the summer. However, the inability to impress at a major tournament like the Copa America will certainly be a setback in his chances of securing a high-profile move. Instead, Hernandez may have to settle for a mid-table team in order to get regular football. The striker made his debut for Mexico in 2009 and he has been one of their consistent players due to the absence of Carlos Vela on some occasions. Read more »
