LUKA MODRIC RESTED AGAINST SD EIBAR

Spanish giant Real Madrid played SD Eibar over the weekend in the La Liga where Los Blancos emerged victorious with a 4-0 thumping. The Croatian midfielder was rested by Head Coach Zinedine Zidane.

Zinedine Zidane also rested Keylor Navas most probably because he feels the best chance for Real Madrid to win a trophy is the European tournament. With the win over Eibar and League leaders Barcelona’s successive loss to Real Sociedad, it leaves the Real Madrid four points behind the Catalan giant.

Barcelona has garnered 76 points from 32 games in the La Liga this season , Athletico Madrid is in second place with 73 points while Real Madrid are closely behind with 72 points, all from the same number of matches played.

Real Madrid lost in an away match to Wolfsburg in the quarter-final first leg of the UEFA Champions League last week. Wolfsburg went ahead 2-0 in the first half and maintained the lead till the end of the game. Real Madrid will be hoping to overturn the defeat at the Santiago Bernabeu next week.

This is the reason real Madrid boss left the star player out of the match. Aside Luka Modric and Keylor Navas, Sergio Ramos, Raphael Varane and Karim Benzema also missed out of the victory against SD Eibar. Ramos missed the game after being sent off at the Camp Nou during last week’s El Clasico. Karim Benzema and Raphael Varane missed out due to sickness and injury.

Kiko Casilla started in place of Navas with Zidane making eight changes to the first team. Pepe, Casemiro and Cristiano Ronaldo kept their place in the match that saw Ronaldo become the first player in history to score 30+ goals in six consecutive Liga seasons. James Rodriguez’s free-kick gave Madrid the opener, Lucas Vazquez, Ronaldo and Jese Rodriguez completed the tally.
