CHELSEA BACK IN FOR MODRIC

It seems that Chelsea have not let go of their summer transfer target Luka Modric after a number of reports suggested that Chelsea could be back for the Croatian midfielder in the January transfer window or in the summer.

Perhaps, the most interesting aspect of these reports is the fact that Chelsea are prepared to provide Tottenham with the services of Frank Lampard – one of the longest serving players at Chelsea. The swap deal involving Frank Lampard comes as a major surprise, but looking at the recent trend in the team lineups, it should not be. Andre Villas-Boas has not been kind to Frank Lampard in recent weeks.

The new manager took not a mean dropping Frank Lampard after a string of poor performances, although the England midfielder returned strongly with a hat-trick against Bolton Wanderers. However, one could always sense that the time is truly well and up for Frank Lampard at Chelsea. The midfielder, at 33 years of age, does not come under the youthful policy of the new manager. It is thought that Chelsea need a lot of creativity, but they missed out on the signing of Luka Modric in the summer. Instead, they went in for the cheap signing of Raul Meireles from Liverpool for around £ 12 million, although he is not a creative midfielder.

This seems to have shown in the recent weeks when Chelsea have really struggled to create chances of any great quality apart from the likes of Mata. Anelka and Alex have already been told that they can leave the club in January. It has also been recently revealed that Didier Drogba and Salomon Kalou will also be shown the door at the end of the season. It is truly an interesting moment at Stamford Bridge where the changing of guards is taking place.
