The new Real Madrid signing Luka Modric has said that he came to the Santiago Bernabeu only to experience nights like the 3-2 win over Manchester city in the first match of the group stage of the Champions League. Real Madrid were grouped in the so-called group of death that contains Manchester city, Dortmund, and Ajax. They were facing Manchester city in the first match at the Santiago Bernabeu. Even though the former Tottenham midfielder was not part of the starting line-up, he has said that he is extremely delighted to be part of the occasion.
Real Madrid went behind twice in the match, but managed to recover on both occasions. They also managed to win the match in the end through a goal from Cristiano Ronaldo. It was Edin Dzeko who scored the first goal of the match before his goal was cancelled by Marcelo. Immediately, Manchester city then took the lead through Kolarov, but it was fun second cancelled out by the French international striker Karim Benzema. Luka Modric was brought on by the manager at this stage, but Cristiano Ronaldo scored the winning goal of the match with only a few minutes remaining.
“Everything is great here and I am enjoying every moment. I came here to play in games like this. This was almost like a final – City were great opponents. We started the season slowly but the atmosphere within the group was always great and it’s going to get even better after tonight. Afterwards our coach said this was the Real Madrid that he knew. When you go out and play like that you can lose sometimes but tonight we won,” said Luka Modric after the match. Real Madrid have made a poor start to the season, but the Croatian midfielder is hoping that this victory changes it.
