Real Madrid have been boosted with the return of star midfielder Luka Modric to training. The Croatian national team skipper has returned to Real Madrid training in time for the visit of Celta Vigo in the Spanish La Liga this weekend.

Madrid have made an impressive start to the new La Liga season with seven points from three games and they lead the league on goal difference ahead of the Celta Vigo clash at the Santiago Bernebeu on Sunday.

Luka Modric returned to Real Madrid training on Wednesday after recovering from the groin injury picked up before the international break this month. The Croatian national team star missed the triple header of Qatar 2022 World Cup qualifiers for his country this month due to the groin injury.

Modric, 35, missed out on the goalless draw with home team Russia in the first of the three World Cup qualifying games for Croatia in September 2021. He was also absent for the wins over Slovakia and Slovenia.

Real Madrid star Modric was not in the Croatia squad as Inter Milan midfielder Marcelo Brozovicscored the lone goal during the 1-0 victory over hosts Slovakia. Luka Modric was also absent as Marko Livaja, Mario Pasalic and Nikola Vlasic scored to give Croatia a 3-0 win over visitors Slovenia to round up their World Cup qualifiers in September.

Luka Modric has not suffered a setback since he returned to training earlier this week thereby making him available for the Celta Vigo game this weekend. Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti might decide to rest the veteran midfielder for the visit of Celta Vigo having just recovered from injury. If Ancelotti rests Modric for the Celta Vigo game in the Spanish La Ligathis weekend, the next target for him would be the Champions League opener against Italian champions Inter Milan next week.
