MODRIC STRUGGLES

Former Tottenham midfielder Luka Modric was one of the big-money signings for Real Madrid in recent seasons, but he struggled to adapt in his first season in Spanish football. This led to the Croatian being named as one of the worst ever signings for Madrid. He improved dramatically as the time wore on. Now, he is one of the regular players in the midfield for the Spanish giants. The 28-year-old has stated that he feels extremely happy at the Santiago Bernabeu amidst rumours continuously linking him with the likes of Manchester United.

David Moyes has been looking to bring in a high-profile signing in the middle of the park. They tried to get Cesc Fabregas from Barcelona, but that has failed after repeated attempts. Since then, they are thought to have renewed their interest in Modric, who was a transfer target for Sir Alex Ferguson even before he moved to Madrid. The Croatian playmaker, though, has ended any speculation about him joining United in January or in the summer by saying that he feels extremely happy at Madrid.

“I’m playing well because I am happy and I am content. I was happy in England and it showed in my game. Now I am in Madrid and it also shows,” said the midfielder in a recent press conference.

This would come as a major blow for Moyes, who was hoping to sign him even though the club added Marouane Fellaini for £ 27 million in the summer.

Modric will be joining up with the Croatian international team in order to take part in the friendly matches. He has been a permanent fixture in the middle of the park for Madrid this season. He has already made 13 appearances in the league alone. He is yet to open the scoring, but he has contributed two assists.
