Croatia’s Luka Modric has warned his Croatian teammates that they should not be complacent about qualifying for the Euro 2012. After the demolition job against Turkey, Croatia are in an extremely good position to qualify for this season’s European Championships. It has been reported in the media that certain Croatian players might be looking to take it easy given they are so close to qualifying, but star midfielder Luka Modric has warned his teammates that they shouldn’t take it easy, because anything can happen in football.
Modric, who came extremely close to joining Chelsea in the close season, said in an interview to a Croatian newspaper that the job remains unfinished. Luka said “We’ve only done half the job. We need to rest in the next few days and prepare well for the second match. The most important thing now is that we stay focused. We can’t relax, not even a little bit. It could be very dangerous if we did.”
Like the star midfielder, Croatian coach Slaven Bilic also requested the Croatian players should not be complacent after the magnificent 3-0 victory on Friday. The Croatians achieved this stunning victory during the current international break. Their most important match comes in the reverse fixture against Turkey. Should they win the match, Croatia will be heading to the European Championships in Ukraine and Poland.
Turkey manager Guus Hiddink was left extremely disappointed with the defeat, but vowing to fight in the second leg. Many expect a backlash from Turkey, which should make for an exciting and unmissable game on Tuesday night!
