Tottenham player and on loan Everton midfielder Steven Pienaar has said that Tottenham have huge fight to face in the summer in order to keep star player Luka Modric.
Even though Gareth Bale has been getting all the attention and praise this season, Luka Modric has been the unsung hero for Tottenham this season. He was linked with a £40 million move to Chelsea in the summer, but had to stay after Tottenham resisted every opportunity from Chelsea. Many were expecting him to sulk this season after one of his dream moves came apart. However, he has been one of the main link between defence and attack in the Tottenham team.
He has been helping Gareth Bale go on the surging runs in front of the defence. As a result, Steven Pienaar says that Tottenham do need to fight a lot in order to keep Luka Modric off the hands of clubs like Manchester United and Chelsea in the summer. Steven Pienaar has currently moved on loan to his former club Everton after being devoid of first-team opportunities at Tottenham this season. He impressed on his debut in the match against Chelsea by scoring the early goal, which set up Everton nicely for the 2-0 win over Andre Villas-Boas’ men.
“Luka is a top player for Spurs and if he leaves it is hard to say what will happen there. He is such an important member of the team. Tottenham will want to keep him at the club, but it is difficult when a player like him wants to move on. As a player only a few opportunities to move on come up in your life, so I can see it from both sides,” Pienaar told the Sunday Mirror. Tottenham have a 10 point advantage over Chelsea in the title race.
