UNITED CHASING MODRIC?

Manchester United are looking to sign Tottenham midfielder Luka Modric in the January transfer window mainly in order to please their star player Wayne Rooney. Rooney is set to be discontent with life at Manchester United after the club have not made any great signing in the last few seasons. The signing of Dimitar Berbatov for £ 30 million was the last major signing Manchester United made. As a result, there have been growing reports that Rooney is unsettled at Manchester United and that Manchester City could come in for the England striker. Hence, manager Sir Alex Ferguson is looking to make Luka Modric a major signing for the club in the January transfer window so as to persuade Wayne Rooney to stay at Manchester United.

Luka Modric was subject to a lot of transfer rumours in the summer transfer window, but he was mainly linked with Chelsea. It was rumoured that Chelsea were prepared to pay at least £ 40 million for his services on the final day of the summer transfer window, but Tottenham rebuffed the offer. It will be interesting to see whether Tottenham will be willing to discuss further terms with Manchester United, as they have sold a number of players to the Manchester club in the past.

It is thought that a bid of £ 50 million from Manchester United would be enough to secure the services of Luka Modric, although it remains to be seen if Sir Alex Ferguson will be willing to pay so much for a player who will be 27 years old soon. Despite the huge transfer rumours surrounding him, Luka Modric has been excellent for Tottenham this season. He has been one of the main reasons for the London club to be ahead of Chelsea, Arsenal, and Liverpool in the Premier League table.
